Oval Murrini Glass Pendant | Wire Chain
This oval glass pendant necklace is a beautiful mix of green, orange and white. Handmade using the murrine rollup technique. The necklace is a peridot green 48-50 strand with sterling silver and nylon-coated stainless steel. The bail is brushed 18K Yellow Gold fill with little cutouts. This glass pendant has a satin finish and would truly make a great addition to any glass jewelry collection!
TECHNIQUE: Crafted over multiple firings, this piece starts as alternating strips of colored sheet glass fused into a panel. The panel is reheated in a glass blowing studio called a “hot shop” and rolled onto a blow pipe. The molten hot glass is stretched and pulled into a rod called "cane", using a classic murrine technique. After cooling, this cane is sliced into tiles of varying thicknesses called murrine revealing the pattern in cross-section. Multiple murrini from this cane are composed in a mold and cast in a kiln with temperatures approaching 1500 degrees until fused into one piece. Finally, the piece is shaped and hand polished to give it a uniquely soft satin luster.
