Square Kiln Formed Glass Plate
The perfect accent piece for any room in your home, this pretty fused glass, mid-century modern inspired decorative panel in blue with bright green lines, would look simply stylish displayed on a bookcase, credenza, or console table in your entryway.
TECHNIQUE: In fusing, multiple pieces of glass are arranged in a pattern and heated in a kiln. This piece features small cuts of colored glass rods sprinkled on top of sheet glass. When heated the chemistry of these colors produce a unique color reaction. These are fused together into 1 piece in a kiln with temperatures approaching 1500 degrees. After cooling, the edges of this piece are ground by hand and fine-tuned. Finally the glass is placed on top of a mold and heated just to the point when it begins to move with gravity and slumps into the shape of the mold. Although these methods may sound simple, the intricate designs can take hours, days or sometimes even weeks, depending on the level of complexity to cut and construct.
