This unique glass bowl is sure to be a conversation piece! The gorgeous amber color, mixed with an eye catching design, was created with frit fused links and was kiln-formed. This plate can be used as a display piece, or as a serving tray. It is food safe but should be hand washed.
TECHNIQUE: In fusing, multiple pieces of glass are arranged in a pattern and heated in a kiln. This piece features a series of glass shapes that were previously cast in a kiln and arranged on top of sheet glass. These shapes are melted into the sheet glass when fully fused with temperatures approaching 1500 degrees in a kiln. After cooling, the edges of this piece are ground by hand and fine-tuned. Finally the glass is laid into, or on top of a mold and heated just to the point where it “slumps” or moves with gravity when it becomes fluid with the heat, to fit the form of the mold. Although these methods sound simple, the object created has an intricate design, that requires hours, or sometimes days to cast, arrange, and assemble the glass shapes to form the specific composition.
