Circle Murrini Glass Pendant | Gold Plated Chain
This kiln formed amber glass pendant incorporates handmade multi generational murrini and fusing to create a one of a kind complex patterned piece of glass jewelry.
The pendant is approximately 1-7/8-inches in diameter with a 1-inch polished gold plated bail on a 18k gold-plated 24-inch, princess length, snake chain with a lobster clasp. This versatile chain comes with a removable threaded ball end to easily and safely change pendants. Simply twist off the threaded ball end and slide on various pendants or beads for elegant, interchangeable jewelry designs. Fits bails or beads with hole sizes from 1/8-inch to 1/4-inch.
TECHNIQUE: Crafted over multiple firings, this piece starts as alternating strips of colored sheet glass fused into a panel. This panel is then skillfully reheated to a molten state in a "hot shop" and rolled up onto a blow pipe, to be shaped and pulled into a rod called cane, using a classic murrini technique. After cooling this cane is chopped into sections and bundled together forming a pattern bar. This is melted again in the hot shop and pulled into a multi-generation cane. The cane is sliced into varying thicknesses, called murrini, revealing the multiplied new pattern in cross-section. Then these murrini are arranged in a mold and melted into one piece in a kiln with temperatures approaching 1500 degrees. Finally this complex fused glass piece is polished by hand to highlight the beauty and intricacy of this unique piece.
