TECHNIQUE: Crafted over multiple firings, this piece starts as alternating strips of colored sheet glass fused into a panel. This panel is then skillfully reheated to a molten state in a "hot shop" and rolled up onto a blow pipe, to be shaped and pulled into a rod called "cane", using a classic murrini technique. After cooling, the cane is sliced into varying thicknesses, revealing the pattern in cross-section. A slice from the cane, called a murrine, is drilled, shaped, and polished by hand to highlight the intricacy of this unique piece.
