Recycled Teardrop Murrini Pendant | Silver Chain
This striking glass pendant necklace is a teardrop shape filled with blue and white swirl. Handmade using the murrine shattered rollup technique, this glass pendant has a polished finish. It would truly make a great addition to any glass jewelry collection!
TECHNIQUE: Crafted over multiple firings, this piece starts as alternating strips of colored sheet glass fused into a panel. The panel is reheated in a glass blowing studio called a “hot shop” and rolled onto a blow pipe. The molten hot glass is stretched and pulled into a rod called "cane", using a classic murrine technique. After cooling, cane is chopped into tiles of varying thicknesses called murrine, revealing the pattern in cross-section. The broken offcuts of this murrini are combined and composed in a mold and cast in a kiln with temperatures approaching 1500 degrees until fused into one piece. Finally, this complex fused glass piece is polished by hand to highlight the beauty and intricacy of this unique piece.
