Recycled Oval Murrini Pendant | Gold Plated Chain
This green and white glass pendant necklace is has a gorgeous swirl of Earth tones. Handmade using a murrine technique, this glass pendant is not only striking, but would make a wonderful addition to any glass jewelry collection. Made from translucent and opalescent glass, this necklace has beautiful swirl design and polished finish. The chain is a gold-plated brass snake chain and is 2.6mm thick with a lobster claw clasp. This versatile chain has a removable screw off end cap and can be used with other pendants. This shattered style recycled glass jewelry piece is made from the fragments, chips, and slivers of glass that break off during the process of chopping murrini. What would typically be swept away from underneath a chopper is carefully sorted, cleaned and recast in a kiln.
TECHNIQUE: This pendant was crafted over multiple firings. It began as alternating strips of colored sheet glass cut and fused into a pattern bar. The bar is reheated in a glass blowing studio called a “hot shop”. The molten hot glass is stretched and pulled into a rod called a cane. After cooling, the cane is chopped into varying thicknesses, revealing the pattern in it's cross-section. These pieces are called murrini. The shattered off cuts from chopping the murrini are melted together forming a one of a kind recycled piece of wearable art.
